Alena Hron has made history as the first woman to serve as Chief Conductor in the Czech Republic, currently in her third season leading the South Czech Philharmonic. She is also the recipient of the prestigious 2024-26 TAKI ALSOP Fellowship, which offers mentorship and coaching from Marin Alsop. Alena Hron made her US debut in the summer of 2024, conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Festival alongside Alsop, and many debuts with orchestras worldwide have followed.

She kicks off the 2026/27 season with an opening concert of the Gulbenkian Orchestra and Choir in Lisbon. Other notable debuts include the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Liège Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest, and Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra. At home, Alena Hron returns to the Prague Symphony Orchestra, which she will lead in three different programs throughout the season. Last season, she conducted special concerts with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam and debuted with Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Gewandhaus, Polish National Radio Symphony in Katowice, and Kyoto Symphony Orchestra in Japan.

Alena Hron’s breakthrough performance came in 2023 at the Prague Spring Music Festival where she conducted the Prague Symphony Orchestra in a program of Prokofiev, Jan Novák and Respighi. Her debut met with critical acclaim, hailed by several major news outlets as triumphant. “A fundamental part of [Prague Symphony’s] exceptionally motivated and excellent playing clearly needs to be attributed to the conductor: subtle, yet able to inspire, lead and command.” (KlasikaPlus). Alena Hron now enjoys a regular relationship with the orchestra, having been immediately re-invited for subscription concerts. A subscription debut with the Brno Philharmonic followed in 24/25 and Hron frequently leads several regional Czech orchestras in addition to her Chief Conductor duties.

Her early collaborations with the Janáček philharmonic resulted in an award-winning recording of Vítězslava Kaprálová’s completed orchestral works, released on the German label cpo. The album with rarely recorded repertoire won “Diapason d’or de l’année” as the Artistic Project of the year, the most prestigious award from the French recording industry. The magazine Diapason D’or wrote: “Alena Hron’s light touch manages to highlight sharp harmonies and sudden rhythmic shifts. Throughout the pieces, the musicians from Ostrava move from melancholy to enthusiasm and from darkness to light with extraordinary ease. They surpass by far the few rival recordings.” The same album was shortlisted for the 2025 Gramophone Awards.

In addition to her orchestral work, Alena Hron is a dedicated choral conductor and one of the co-founders of Punkt, a contemporary music chamber choir that has garnered several awards. She is passionate about opera and has conducted performances of Verdi’s Rigoletto and Puccini’s La Bohème, as well as a new ballet production of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.

Alena Hron graduated from the Zurich University of the Arts under Johannes Schlaefli and Christoph-Mathias Mueller. In 2025, she was selected to take part in the Gstaad Conducting Academy where she received guidance from Jaap van Zweden and Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. Prior to her studies in Switzerland, she attended the Prague Conservatory, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, and the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. She has been mentored by notable conductors such as Marin Alsop, Jakub Hrůša and Vasily Petrenko. Alena resides in Prague with her family.
